Review: The Boss Who Stole Christmas

The Boss Who Stole Christmas The Boss Who Stole Christmas by Jana Aston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review of my second time. I listened to it. Erin Mallon and Jana Aston go hand in hand, right? I mean, does anyone really get Jana's characters the way Erin does? No. No, I don't think so. And she freaking nails Holly and Nick. Honestly, this is just as good as the first time. I think I'll revisit these characters again and again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fucking Jana Aston and her humor.
I'm not usually a fan of holiday stories, but when it was pitched as a Hallmark movie meets sexy times, I was in.
Because, really, who doesn't love a Hallmark Christmas movie? The only disappointing thing about those movies is the insta-love and the extreme lack of sex. But I can handle it because I want a lot of sweet with my sappy holiday movies.
But I digress.
The Boss Who Stole Christmas is fun, sexy, swoony, and just the perfect blend of over the top holiday nonsense to make you feel like you fell into a snow globe. Or a Hallmark movie. Whichever.
And Nick Saint-Croix is the sexy boss you want to get dirty with. I mean, he takes her on a trip of a lifetime! And that first kiss? SA-WOOOOOON.
Review: Can't Fix Cupid
Can't Fix Cupid Can't Fix Cupid by Raven Kennedy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Well this was pleasantly unexpected.
Do you ever pick up a book and think, "sure, why not?" just because it sounds like it could be cute and the cover is just quirky enough to have you opening to the first page?
Yeah, me too. I do it all the time, but this Can't Fix Cupid was probably the most fun I've ever had based on a "sure, why not" mentality.
Warren Knight is the hard ass CEO who isn't looking for love.
Trix Valentine is the Cupid determined to find him a love interest.
But when things go awry, Trix finds herself in the human realm as a human and she may also find herself naked in Warren's office.
No big.
But yeah, so, you can see how this could be fun and quirky and an interesting set-up, right? It isn't every day I read a book about a Cupid. Hard ass CEO, sure. Those are a dime a dozen. If I throw I rock I can hit one of those books right now. But not a Cupid. That's new.
And it is so much fun!
Review: Wicked Lies Boys Tell
Wicked Lies Boys Tell Wicked Lies Boys Tell by K. Webster
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked it up on a friend's recommendation.
I figured I would listen to it because.--hello!--Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan. Their voices alone would make me listen to anything.
And let's be clear, it's MM romance and I heard it was angsty, so why wouldn't I give this a shot, right?
Anyway, THIS BOOK HOOKED ME. And when I say that, I mean I didn't want to put it down. I pushed play on my way to work and was mad when I got there in record time because that meant I had to actually go do work.
I listened on my definitely not long enough break and was mad when that time was up too.
I hit play for a third time on my drive home.
And when I got home, I grabbed my phone and my nearest set of earbuds and popped those in and hit play again.
I finished the whole book in one day.
Cope and Penn were everything I wanted in angsty, broody romance. This is a weird friends to enemies to lovers story that just worked on every single level.
Bitchy ex-girlfriend? Got it.
Kick ass girl who knows the truth, but plays along? Check.
Shitty parents? Got 'em.
A LOVE THAT KNOWS NO BOUNDS AND PERSISTS EVEN WHEN THE ODDS ARE AGAINST THAT LOVE? You know it's here or you wouldn't read romance.
Seriously, get this book RTFN. Cope and Penn will find their spot in your heart too.
Review: The One Night Stand Before Christmas
The One Night Stand Before Christmas The One Night Stand Before Christmas by Jana Aston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Another one of those feel-good, sexy times kind of books. Jana nailed it with this finale to the Reindeer Fall series.
Honestly, if Santa looked more like this Teddy guy, I'd be willing to bring him home too.
I had so much fun reading this series and I am a bit sad to see my time in Reindeer Falls come to an end, but I know they will always be there for me to revisit--especially when I'm feeling in the holiday mood.
Review: Long Way Down
Long Way Down Long Way Down by Krista Ritchie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I went into this knowing I would love it. Is that wrong? Probably. But do I care? No.
Because, let's face it, I've been #TeamCraisy from the very beginning. From before they were a couple. I've known these two were the real deal. Just like we all knew Lil and Lo were. And Connor and Rose.
Ryke and Daisy were the perfect pair. A OTP, if you will. They complemented each other in so many ways. And they completed each other in ways I never knew were possible.
Ryke and Daisy were the pair unlikely to happen because they were both wild, they were free. They were in different parts of their lives due to the age difference.
But there was no better couple than Ryke and Daisy.
Their struggles are real. I laughed, I cried. I loved so hard. I wanted everything for them. I wanted them to have it all: the peace, the happiness, the family.
I can't possibly convey the way I felt while reading this. I remember reading Fuel the Fire and thinking that Connor and Rose had to go through a lot. But at no point did I think it was more than two people could handle. I knew they would come out the other side. Maybe not unscathed, but I knew they would make it.
I couldn't say that about Ryke and Daisy. And that realization broke me into pieces. I kept thinking, "no, they can't take any more. They don't deserve this." My heart hurt. Their pain was my pain. Their loss was my loss. Their love, well, it was my love. But the tears were real. Every single tear that fell for these two was real.
I wanted everything for Ryke and Daisy.
And I got it in ways only KB Ritchie can deliver.
I will forever be Team #RaisyIsAlive
Review: If You Give A Jerk A Gingerbread
If You Give A Jerk A Gingerbread If You Give A Jerk A Gingerbread by Jana Aston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well, just go ahead and slap me, I'm in Christmas novella heaven. Seriously, what is Jana doing in her writing cave? She's gonna convert me and I'm going to hate her for it.
Except I'm really not because Keller is so freaking dreamy. He BAKES, guys. BAKES. Like actual baked goods and he makes breakfast and did I mention he's British?
BRITISH.
I have a weakness for that accent.
And so does Ginger. You met her in the first Reindeer Falls novella. She's sister to Holly, the lovely lady who fell in love with her boss.
But that's not the focus here.
Here we follow Ginger and her time on the Great Gingerbread Bake-off show thing she's filming and guaranteed to win. Basically.
However. Keller.
Yep, he's a sexy wrench in her plans. One I'd let mess with my plans any day of the week. There's just something about that accent. And that smirk.
Anyway, sexy meets Hallmark here. Again. Jana freaking nailed it. I'm down for the next book, just whenever she wants to release that baby.
Review: Unscripted
Unscripted Unscripted by J.R. Gray
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It's been a long time since I've sat down with an MM book and just devoured it.
It's been a long time since I've found that love for a story, one that wouldn't let me put it down.
JR Gray gave me that love of reading, that love of inclusion, that love of storytelling. He gave me that with Unscripted.
I don't know why this one spoke to me as much as it did, but from the first snippet I saw over on B+M, I knew this would be a book I would read.
I don't know which part appealed to me the most, but there was just something about a man who realized he wasn't who he thought.
There's something about that kind of self awareness, that kind of realization, that 'ah-ha' moment that had me turning the pages as fast as possible.
I just had to know how Hale and Quell got together.
I just had to know how they handled the obstacles in their path.
I. Just. Had. To. Know.
This is my first time reading JR Gray.
I'm clearly the fool here.
