Review: The Hitchhiker

I'm not happy with the star rating I'm giving this book, I want that to be known. Honestly, I wish I could split it because the story in this book I absolutely LOVE. But the repetitive internal dialog drove me batty. Seriously, I got so tired of hearing the same thing from the characters that it took away from the story. I feel like this story could have been shorter if it weren't so repetitive.

Now, I did enjoy Katch Sterling. I enjoyed getting to know a man that doesn't exist--even though he clearly does exist. I enjoyed watching him fall in love. I enjoyed watching him kill people. I enjoyed the banter, the sex, the loyalty, and all of that awesome stuff. I did not enjoy listening to him telling me--repeatedly--why he couldn't possibly be with this woman.

"That fucking mouth. Wrap it around my cock, babe. I got all fucking day."

Yes, see, this. THIS^^^I can handle reading. This is what I wanted more of. That and the heart of the story.

The suspense is real, the love is real, the heat is real. So, if you can overlook the inner battle, then this book is for you.

Killing, motorcycles, nicknames, sex, banter, loyalty, family, suspense. It's all here, in one little package.

Review: #Blur

Arrow. Damn. I've wanted this guy's story from the moment we met him. We've seen glimpses of him, we've gotten a tiny piece of his story, but we honestly have no idea who Arrow Ambrose is.

And now we do. Now we see the broken man behind the silence. We see the man who lives in his brother's shadow.

Arrow Ambrose has been offered not one, but two contracts. Should he sign with the Pros or the NRR? Where does he fit? Should he be his own man and join the pros or should he continue to follow in his brother's footsteps? What will hurt less? What makes sense for Arrow? And what happened in Arrow's past that makes him keep his distance? What really happened between him and Sullivan Lorhaven? What pushed Arrow to such a dark, silent place?

Hopper, another man with only one name, has been on the racing scene for years. Joey's manager in the Pros, he missed a lot of what she went through because he was too focused on himself. And not in a self-centered way. When you get Hopper's story, you understand why he's hiding in the Pros as a manager. You understand he, too, has been through something no one should have to go through. Surviving, but not really living.

We've watched these two dance around each other for several books now. We've caught the stares and the interest, but they've never spoken.

And when they do speak for the first time? "What's it going to be, Arrow? You going to let me in?"

We were like two sharks circling, drawn by the scent of blood.
Whose blood? I wasn't yet sure.
Arrow was going to be a fight. No. Not a fight. Not a battle.
A war.

Like I said, these two have been dancing around each other for quite some time now. They are drawn to each other. They sense something in the other person. They just have to take that first bite, that first leap. But can they?

I'm not sure if I have the words to explain how I felt while reading about the pasts of these two men. What I do know, is that they went through Hell, but they were eventually given a chance at real love, real happiness, real life. They went through Hell to find each other--even when they didn't know it.

Bringing these two broken souls together couldn't have been more perfect or written any better than this. Watching these two men find themselves in each other and then open themselves up to more, it's just perfect.

I loved this installment in the GearShark series. I want more of Arrow and Hopper. I feel like they have more to say than what #Blur allowed. And that's okay because #Blur is complete and I loved it. I just feel like there is more. Just like I feel there is more to Lorhaven and Joey. Maybe it's because Trent and Drew had two books to tell their story? Maybe because these characters overcame so much? Whatever the reason, I will never get enough of Arrow and Hopp.

Review: The Mason List

The Mason List by S.D. Hendrickson

Can I give it more stars? Because let's be honest, this book deserves so many more than I'm allowed to give.

There aren't words to describe this story. I know I can string together a bunch of words, those 26 letters can be transformed into something magical and beautiful, but there is no way I can do this book justice. SD Hendrickson took those 26 little letters and created a masterpiece of words.

I cried, I laughed, I cried. I smiled, I sobbed, I loved. Oh, how I loved Jess Mason.

This is the type of story that takes you from friends to so much more. Jess and Alex met when they were eight years old. They met under less than desirable circumstances, but they met and they became best friends.

This is the journey of two children, two teenagers, two college students, and two adults trying to find their way in this world.

Jess and Alex are inseparable, but what we see from the beginning is that these two are inevitable. They just have to happen. What Jess sees is his love for Alex never waning. He will wait for her. He will wait forever if he has to.

Alex loves Jess Mason. We know it, but we also understand all of her concerns. We feel for her. We hurt for her. Or was that just me? It can't have just been me. She loves him, but she hates everything he represents. She loves him, but fights it. She loves him.

The Mason List is told from Alex's POV and it spans 18 years. We begin in the present, but it alternates with the past. The past is where we fall in love with Jess. It's where we hurt for Alex. It's where we watch these two fall in friendship and in love.

I'll admit I was nervous while listening to this. I was afraid I wouldn't get the ending I wanted. I was afraid something horrible happened and they never got their chance (the present POVs indicate something is VERY wrong).

But SD Hendrickson doesn't completely gut me. I mean, she does, but she also makes me happy cry. I can't think of a single time I've ever cried happy tears. I didn't know it was a thing.

Until now.

This book goes down as a favorite for me. I want it in all available formats. I want a signed copy. I want this book to live on my physical shelf and never leave. I also want to start this over and listen again even though I just finished it.

It's that good.

Wow. What can I say about this book? I absolutely love the story of Travis and Charlie. My twelve tiny truths are nothing compared to what Charlie and Travis go through, but we all have our secrets. Or our omissions. We all have something.

Mal and Frost absolutely nailed it with this book. I laughed, I loved, and I feared for the worst (I mean, this is MAL AND FROST, they have been known to rip me apart in the past). However, these two did not disappoint. I have never met a sweeter, more fun couple than Travis and Charlie.

I want to go on record and say that I did NOT see the twist coming. I mean, one of the twists I kind of suspected, but that other twist was an honest to God WTF moment. I didn't see it coming. I was totally blindsided. I don't think anything could have prepared me. It's also probably why I sat there waiting for the other shoe to drop for the remainder of the book.

So, what does Mal and Frost have in store next? Are they going to make me cry? Will I get angry? Do I get my very own spin-off because I'm awesome and in love? Who knows. But I do know that I'll read it because these two are awesome.

Review: Ground & Pound

This is the first time I've read either of these authors. I can guarantee it won't be the last. It's a shorter story so the love is insta, but it's a good story. Boy sees girl, boy wants girl, boy gets girl.

There are a few outside forces that try to keep Kane and Emmy apart, but it takes more than that to stop true love.

Emmy is raising her brother on her own and has turned to the one thing guaranteed to make easy money: Stripping.

Kane Travis is a fighter. Born to a shitty father yet an amazing mother, Kane has pursued a career in professional fighting. He's excellent at what he does.

When Kane sees Emmy, he knows he has to have her. Enter alpha male tendencies and Emmy clearly can't resist. I mean, who can resist the gorgeous fighter who won't stop pursing her?

No one.

I enjoyed this and it's short length didn't hinder the story at all. There is still drama--some that hits close to home for many. There is still a love story.

And the narration is excellent. I had never listened to this narrator before, but he was the perfect Kane Travis. I also enjoyed his narration of Emmy. It wasn't overdone or ridiculous. He told the story well and I was able to distinguish between characters.
