Review: Otherworld

Otherworld Otherworld by Jason Segel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There was that one time I was accused of bullying my friend into reading a book. But what wasn't disclosed--or what people chose to ignore--was the fact that I agreed to read a book she recommended as well.

This is that book.

Otherworld is the book my dear friend, Allie, insisted that I read. She said it was a favorite of hers. And she was sure I'd love it because I enjoyed Ready Player One and I like YA.
As much as I enjoyed Ready Player One, it doesn't quite come close to Otherworld. Yeah, sure, you can enter a virtual reality world and cool shit can happen.
But what happens when bad shit can happen too?

That's Otherworld.

Virtual Reality is here, but it is still very much the future. This is a future that could exist. It's a future I'm a bit afraid of.
Maybe I'm too old or something, but the idea that our future could become a video game, well, that's not really a world I want to live in.

AND THIS BOOK TELLS YOU WHY IT WOULD BE A BAD, BAD IDEA.

Otherworld is like nothing else. And it was an adventure I couldn't quit.
Seriously, if I had more hours in my day, I would have finished this in one sitting--which is impressive since I did the audio. As it stands, I had the second book downloaded before I finished this one.
Because that ending will leave your head spinning.
Because this world is layered and complex and different.
Because Cat and Simon need to save the world--or maybe they need to save Otherworld.

Review: Unbreakable

Unbreakable Unbreakable by Melanie Harlow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've been wanting Sylvia to get her happily ever after--especially after we met her douchebag husband.
But I couldn't have seen this sweet, fun, sexy romance coming.

Henry is a dirty talking, wine making, sexy man who is fresh-ish off a divorce and not really looking for love.
Sylvia is fresh off a divorce, but she's determined to take care of her children and herself. She isn't looking for love.

Which is why this is perfect.
Henry is the sexy man you wish you had.
He's the man you'll want.

He's a top Melanie Harlow man, for sure.

Review: Mistletoe Kisses

Mistletoe Kisses Mistletoe Kisses by Sam Mariano
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love student-teacher romance. I don't know why. I honestly don't even question it anymore. I just know if you tell me it's a student teacher romance, I will want to read it.

And this is a sweet, sexy, and fun little number that will have your toes curling.

I swear, they just didn't make teachers like this when I was in school....

Review: Tangled Like Us

Tangled Like Us Tangled Like Us by Krista Ritchie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I could sense the chemistry between Jane and Thatcher on that tour bus. I could sense something would happen, but I had no idea Thatcher would fall quite so beautifully in love with Jane.

There's nothing I love more than watching a big alpha fall and Tangled does not disappoint.

I absolutely love these two. I can't think of a family series I have loved more than I have loved this one.
And I cannot wait to see Moffy and Farrow in the future books of the series.

This was the perfect "ending" for these two.

Review: Ruthless Knight

Ruthless Knight Ruthless Knight by A. Jade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I don't have the words for this book. Nothing I say will do it justice. I just know that this is the book you need to read this year. It's angsty, it tackles real world issues, it gives you a love that may not be cookie-cutter but it is so fucking real and raw.

You need #SOLE in your life.

You'll laugh.
You'll love.
You'll cry.
You'll hurt.

You'll lose yourself to the epic-ness of this story, this couple, this struggle, this love.

Review: Sinful Like Us

Sinful Like Us Sinful Like Us by Krista Ritchie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I made the mistake of reading other reviews and now I'm annoyed that people continue with a series that clearly isn't for them. Just stop reading them. It's easy. Don't like it, don't buy it.

But I digress.

Now that my mini-rant is over, let's move on.
I am in love with this family. I'm in love with this series. Obviously. I'm still here. I finished the original ten books. I've moved on to this series where we see those children of the famous couples meet their matches and fall in love.

Janie had a serious issue letting love in. She didn't think she was worthy, she thought she needed more, she wanted to be independent and strong.
Thatcher is the man for Jane. He's strong and he loves deeply. He knows how to make her feel loved and wanted and needed. And he lets her be her. He loves her for her.

The Cobalt clan will forever be epic. They are totally over the top, but their love for one another runs deep. The loyalty is true. And those Wednesday night dinners are something of legend.

I'm here for everything KB Ritchie is going to throw our way. I love the additional POV in this one because it gave us a bit of how strong the bonds in Omega really are. It showed us that brotherly love is also beautiful.

And those twists at the end? Yes, please. Give me more.

Review: A Favor for a Favor

A Favor for a Favor A Favor for a Favor by Helena Hunting
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's rare that I love a couple quite as much as I love Bishop and Stevie. These two had everything sweet and sexy and swoony that makes me happy.
A sweet and fun friends to lovers romance, Bishop is rough around the edges and doesn't have a lick of tact, but he somehow manages to find himself enamored with Stevie. She is the very last person he should find himself attracted to, but it happens.

And it is so cute! Bishop is all alpha-swoony. Stevie is smart, quick-witted, and she's not going to be fooled by Bishop's hockey status.
In fact, that's the thing that will keep her far, far away.

I'm still reeling from this story. I haven't picked up a book since finishing this one. This is the kind of story that makes me want to read it again and again.
Helena Hunting has another hit on her hands. You'll fall for Bishop and Stevie, there's no doubt about it.

Review: Lovers Like Us

Lovers Like Us Lovers Like Us by Krista Ritchie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I obviously can't stop listening to this series. I just love this family so much and that love doesn't end with the older generation.
Maximoff and Jane and the whole clan is worth the time it takes to listen. Or read. Because I did both with this book. I couldn't put it down.

Maximoff and Farrow and the couple with the kind of love that only happens once in a lifetime. It's the blow your mind how did you get so lucky oh my god this is it kind of love.

I know it.
You know it.

Maximoff and Farrow know it.

Review: The Scorpio Races

The Scorpio Races The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm sad that it's January and I'm just now finishing this story, but life happened and other books happened and I really wanted my children on this journey. Needless to say, they jumped ship and it took me a bit to get over that betrayal.
So I went back to Thisby alone. I've spent my time with Sean and Puck and I can't think of a better way to bring in a new year.
If this is how 2020 starts, I have a feeling it's going to be a solid year. Because what could be better than the island of Thisby? November Cakes? George Holly? Cor? Sean? Puck? Finn?
Nothing is better.
This is a great story and one I will visit again in October, as is my tradition.
(review posted on Jan 1 2020.)
``````
Every year, in October, I take a trip to Thisby. I wait for the water horses to come out of the sea. I wait for the training, the tourists, the November cakes.
I wait.
And I wait.
And I wait.
And every year, in October, I fall in love with all of Thisby. I let it grow around me. I let it whisper into my ears and I let the salty air fill my nose and I hear the drums of the Scorpio Races.
Every year.
Every year, October brings my favorite characters back to me.
This year was no different. It is no different.
Because The Scorpio Races is the kind of story that lives in you. It's the kind of story that you find yourself never wanting to leave. It's the kind of story that makes you feel at home.
I find myself enamored with Kate Connelly. Puck Connelly. Sean Kendrick. Dove. Corr. Finn. Gabe. Tommy Falk and his pretty mouth. The Grattons. And Mutt Malvern. I find myself completely taken in when I walk the streets of Skarmouth. I find myself saying two hail marys and a colombo because I was right awful this week and Father Mooneyham just isn't believing me properly.
I find myself looking for my race colors.
I find myself looking for the red stallion with a lone rider on its back.
I find myself looking for more.
And when it's all said and done, and my time on Thisby comes to a close, I find myself wanting to open the book back to the beginning and start again.
